How it Works

Understanding your brain

To understand PrTMS®, it’s helpful to understand how brainwaves work and what they do. Your brain contains billions of nerve cells, known as neurons. Neurons are arranged in patterns throughout your brain which correspond to different functions, such as emotion, memory, and physical activity. These neurons communicate with each other electrochemically, which results in rhythmic or repetitive patterns, known as brainwaves.

You can imagine your brain activity as a symphony orchestra – when all the musicians are playing in harmony, the result is beautiful music. However, if just one section or instrument is out of sync, it can result in disconnected or unpleasant noise. Similarly, if your brainwaves are operating at the wrong frequency, it can also result in ‘noise’ that causes symptoms.

How PrTMS® works

The first step of PrTMS® involves analyzing a patient’s unique brainwaves based on EEG data and constructing a map of the activity. This map, together with neurocognitive test scores, is used to create a patient-tailored rTMS treatment plan, which is verified and approved by a qualified PrTMS® provider. PrTMS® allows for a dynamic approach to neuromodulation and is designed to restore balance and correct brainwave disruptions that may contribute to many conditions.

What to expect with follow-up sessions:

Continued customization:
Brain function is measured on an ongoing basis to ensure that your treatment plan is always optimized for you.

Timing of results:
In our experience, patients often begin to feel better over the first couple weeks of treatment. Some patients may feel relief within days.

Length of treatment:
An initial treatment plan usually calls for sessions 5 days a week for a total of 6-8 weeks. Sessions take approximately 45 minutes.

Evaluate and map your brain function

A common test known as an electroencephalogram (EEG) will be performed to measure your brainwave activity.

The EEG device is wireless and the recording can be done in less than 5 minutes – unlike conventional methods which are more intrusive and can require up to a few hours to complete.

The EEG provides an objective, quantitative look at your brain function.

You will also respond to patient questionnaires, which provide subjective, qualitative data.

The combination of objective and subjective data forms a more complete picture of your brain health.

Data Analysis

The data collected in step 1 is used to generate a treatment plan tailored specifically to you, which is then verified and approved by a qualified PrTMS® provider.

Application of PrTMS® Therapy

PrTMS® therapy is performed according to your custom treatment plan.

During treatment, you will relax in a comfortable chair while the TMS device is positioned near your head and energy is applied.
